2023 Open Pennant – UPDATE
Posted on: 21 March
After losing 5 players from last year’s winning pennant side, we knew we were going to have to dig deep this year to compete. The boys have represented the club very proudly this year and have given their best every game.
Backing up after 36 holes in the heat on Saturday, we played at Southport on Sunday against our arch-rivals Sanctuary Cove. We were narrowly beaten 4 matches to 3 but it was still a great overall performance. Special mention to Yutaro, coming off a win in Saturday’s foursomes, Yutaro overpowered his opponent for a great win. Matt Williams played at 3 and won the last to finish square against a much younger opponent. A new junior member at the Club, Alex Yap who has recently moved from NZ, proved what a great prospect he is with a great first-up win. Alex Whiteley, hitting the ball an absolute mile, squared his match on the last. Mark Burrell had a tough day at 1. His opponent Mich Varly was 7 under after 14, but Mark kept fighting all the way to go down 2 n 1. Remarkable golf.
Our last game is this Sunday at home against Southport with an 8:25 am start time. It would be great to get as many club members as possible to come along and support the team. Six top Gold Coast teams are playing so some great golf will be witnessed.
