Update from the Course

club image
The course is still in recovery mode after this year's renovations. I'm not that happy with the time it has taken for the total coverage of the greens as some areas are still bare in places. I honestly thought the greens would have "jumped" a lot more than what they have given we had a successful renovation and the growing conditions were perfect. The renovation is exactly what the course required and yes, it was a proper renovation that removed a significant amount of mat and thatch. At the 5-week mark which I had outlined the greens would be back to 100%, I felt they were only at about 85% which to me was disappointing. Don't get me wrong the improved health and vigour of the greens is outstanding but there were still bare thin areas evident, mainly on the perimeters which haven't grow back entirely.

A few of the greens (1,6,7,8,10,14 and 17) have been given second granular feeds of Noculate to promote new growth in these lesser areas.  These greens are currently being "babied" to give them every chance of a faster recovery. I am just starting to see the sideways growth of the 328 that will cover up these bare areas. This growth has been enhanced by applying several applications of Gibberellic Acid, a product designed to encourage sideways growth.

We are back to our regular fortnightly foliar fertiliser programmes and have just commenced the weekly dusting programme as well, all weapons in our armoury to encourage a greater putting surface.

See you on course,

Meet the Team Behind Links

Meet Brandi, our cheerful Food and Beverage Assistant who has been part of the Links team for nearly three years. Brandi loves working in the beautiful environment of Links Golf and Wellbeing, surrounded by wonderful people. When she’s not busy making coffees and interacting with customers—her favourite part of the role—you might find her walking her dog, playing sports, enjoying her own coffee, or hitting the beach on warm days. Currently studying to become a teacher, fulfilling her childhood dream, Brandi is also perfecting her latte art and recommends trying one of our delicious cocktails from SOL. With a love for adventure, she would love it if teleportation was possible so she could travel anywhere, anytime, and has set her sights on running a half marathon with Morgan who featured in a previous employee spotlight. A fun fact? Brandi turns 21 this February—be sure to wish her a happy birthday!

Multi Tee Competition

Links Golf & Wellbeing will be trialling a MULTI TEE COMPETITION format in both the men's & ladies' competition on Tuesday 14 January 2025.

What is an MULTI TEE COMPETITION format you ask?
A multi tee competition is when the player gets to choose which colour tee block they want to play from on the day in the daily competition. The competition on Tuesday 14th January is a single stableford. Men's competition players can choose to play from either Blue or Yellow tee markers. Ladies Competition can choose from Yellow or Red tees. Players handicaps will be adjusted by Golf Australia in the MiClub App automatically when they register to reflect the tee markers each player decides to play from.

Procedure on the day will be to pay your competition fee in the golf shop as normal, log into Miscore App and register yourself in the competition and continue to tee selection from there. Pictures attached.

Golf Australia's Daily Handicap Look Up charts for all tee markers both Men's (Blue, White, Yellow) and Ladies (Yellow, Red) are available from the golf shop if you wish to check.

The MULTI TEE COMPETITION format on Tuesday 14th January 2025 will be a trial.  This type of competition format was discussed with the Members Advisory Committee a number of months ago.  A number of clubs across the country have and continue to use this format and we look forward to your feedback.

Blue Cart Directional Signage and Lines.

Please remember to adhere to the new Blue Cart Directional Signs and Lines recently instated on course.  Since the introduction of the Visage 4 GPS system in September, we have been able to keep club carts well away from putting greens and surrounds, however we are still noticing too much cart wear close to greens.  The purpose of the blue lines is to make it absolutely clear where carts can be driven, the direction they are driven in and how far carts are to remain from surrounds and putting surfaces, so please, adhere to the direction of the arrows on the signs and do not cross the blue lines when driving a cart on course.  Staff will be policing this and in addition, we ask the lowest marker in each group to take responsibility for ensuring all members of the group adhere to the rule.  Please play your part in allowing us to deliver the quality of playing surface we all want to see.
