Update from the Course

Great weather for ducks and that's about it!!

A very wet couple of days with 215mm emptied from the gauge so far. It's been far too wet to even contemplate mowing anything on course (except the greens), so the boys have been slogging it out this week doing a full maintenance programme on all course bunkers. This entails vertical brush cutting of all edges and faces, all weeds and grass runners' hand weeded, sand pushed back up onto the bunker faces, and all bunker bases hand shaped and levelled. With the temperature around the 30deg mark and the humidity at 90 percent the team are really earning their money this week and doing a fantastic job with no complaints. I always say that sharp bunkers always lift the rest of the course to the next level.

Today and tomorrow there looks like a reprieve in the weather so we will take full advantage of this and foliar fert all fairways and surrounds. Included in the brew will be Primo (growth retardant) and Bifenthrin (insecticide for army worm).

The new 328 nurseries on the back of the 15th tees are progressing nicely. Today was their first cut at the green's height of 3.5mm. Previously we have been introducing them to regular mowing by using the tees mower set at 8mm. They responded well to this over the past few weeks, so I felt it was time to go one step further and the results were great once again.

See you on course,
Glenn Beauclerc

Libby

Meet the Team Behind Links

Meet Libby, a valued member of our Links Golf and Wellbeing team! Since joining us in 2022, Libby has been an integral part of our golf services team, handling roles such as drinks cart operations, marshalling, and golf coaching.

Born in Brisbane and moving to the Gold Coast at the age of nine, Libby's love for golf was sparked by her parents, who were avid golfers at Surfers Paradise Golf Course. She turned professional in 1986, competing across Europe and spending a decade on the Japan tour. Libby also played on the Australian and Asian tours before retiring from professional tournaments in 2000. She then dedicated her expertise to coaching at Sanctuary Cove and Arundel before bringing her passion to Links in 2022. Libby's mornings now begin bright and early, preparing the drinks cart by 7 am and serving guests on the course by 8 am. After wrapping up and balancing takings, she transitions into coaching golf lessons, sharing her wealth of experience with players of all levels.

Libby cherishes the warm greetings she receives from players and members, whether she's serving from the drinks cart or offering golf lessons. Her love for being outdoors and engaging with members makes her role especially rewarding. One standout moment for Libby was meeting and snapping a photo with rugby league legend Jonathan Thurston during a corporate golf day-an unforgettable experience! Professionally inspired by tennis great Roger Federer, Libby is passionate about helping golfers improve their game. She recommends alignment sticks from our Golf Shop, emphasizing their importance in correcting amateur golfers' aim.

Outside of work, Libby enjoys playing tennis and exploring her artistic side-a fun fact many might not know about her! One of her bucket list dreams is to attend the US Masters. Her guiding principle in life is simple yet powerful: "Treat people the way you want to be treated." If she could have any superpower, Libby would love the ability to communicate with animals, much like Samantha from Bewitched. We are lucky to have Libby on our team, bringing her experience, energy, and enthusiasm to Links Golf and Wellbeing every day!

Multi Tee Competition

Due to the weather, Links Golf & Wellbeing's trialling of the MULTI TEE COMPETITION format in both the men's & ladies' competition has now been moved to Tuesday 21 January 2025.

What is an MULTI TEE COMPETITION format you ask?
A multi tee competition is when the player gets to choose which colour tee block they want to play from on the day in the daily competition. The competition on Tuesday 14th January is a single stableford. Men's competition players can choose to play from either Blue or Yellow tee markers. Ladies Competition can choose from Yellow or Red tees. Players handicaps will be adjusted by Golf Australia in the MiClub App automatically when they register to reflect the tee markers each player decides to play from.

Procedure on the day will be to pay your competition fee in the golf shop as normal, log into Miscore App and register yourself in the competition and continue to tee selection from there. Pictures attached.

Golf Australia's Daily Handicap Look Up charts for all tee markers both Men's (Blue, White, Yellow) and Ladies (Yellow, Red) are available from the golf shop if you wish to check.

The MULTI TEE COMPETITION format on Tuesday 21 January 2025 will be a trial.  This type of competition format was discussed with the Members Advisory Committee a number of months ago.  A number of clubs across the country have and continue to use this format and we look forward to your feedback.

Blue Cart Directional Signage and Lines.

Please remember to adhere to the new Blue Cart Directional Signs and Lines recently instated on course.  Since the introduction of the Visage 4 GPS system in September, we have been able to keep club carts well away from putting greens and surrounds, however we are still noticing too much cart wear close to greens.  The purpose of the blue lines is to make it absolutely clear where carts can be driven, the direction they are driven in and how far carts are to remain from surrounds and putting surfaces, so please, adhere to the direction of the arrows on the signs and do not cross the blue lines when driving a cart on course.  Staff will be policing this and in addition, we ask the lowest marker in each group to take responsibility for ensuring all members of the group adhere to the rule.  Please play your part in allowing us to deliver the quality of playing surface we all want to see.
