Well, the rain certainly hasn't stopped the bees from going about their work with both hives bursting at the seems on our inspection last Friday. The good news was they hadn't built into the hive lid and with the top 9 frames in the honey super 100% capped and ready for extraction it wouldn't have been long before we unveiled a sticky mess. This is why we carry out fortnightly inspections just to get a handle on exactly what's happening in the hive.
We will do a much unexpected honey extraction this Friday to once again create more room within the hive. They are very busy little bees and certainly have thrived at Links Golf and Wellbeing since their arrival.
Honey will be available for purchase from next Tuesday the 28th of January.
Fun fact: Did you know that bees are also fantastic boogiers!!
To let all the other worker bees in the hive know exactly where the pollen or nectar is on a particular tree, they communicate when they return back into the hive by doing a figure 8 Waggle dance in front of all the bees. The direction of the dance indicates north, east, south or west and the number of times they bounce their abdomen on the floor of the hive indicates the distance to travel. Pretty cool huh!
