Update from the Course

The greens are enjoying having a bit of sun on the backs and are responding well to all implemented programmes. This week we did a foliar brew of 20:0:0 (controlled release nitrogen), Rapid Uptake (kelp, fulvic acid and organic carbon), Primo (growth regulator), and Sempra (herbicide for Mullumbimby couch).  Applied on Monday the results were visibly noticeable by late that afternoon.  The recovery of the thin areas continues and are closing over nicely. Scott Parker our Course Assistant Superintendent has put in over a thousand plugs of 328 from our spare green into these areas to increase the speed of recovery. These plugs which are the size of a golf ball also help to level out the thin areas stopping the greens mowers from scalping the unlevel surface. The speed of the greens are at a consistent pace and we will continue to roll all putting surfaces 2 to 3 times per week.

The irrigation nightmares continue with leaks a plenty on course. Aging pipes and fittings are the cause for most of these blow outs, Last week alone we had 3 greenside irrigation ring mains all bust on consecutive days on the 13th, 15th, and 16th greens.   When dug up to be repaired it was amazing to see how all three 50mm PVC pipes had split almost in identical ways.  This once again just highlighted how the pipes are of the same age and are just splitting to wear and tear.

You would have noticed Joshua Gatt our irrigation technician and Ben Karsten our apprentice greenkeeper digging very large holes around the overflow carpark during the week. The boys have been very busy trying to locate the irrigation main line that runs through this area so it could be dug up and end capped to isolate this area for future development. Both staff members were very grateful for the purchase of our new excavator as the main line was about 6 foot deep.

See you on course,
Glenn Beauclerc
Your Friendly Course Superintendent

Member and Guest Check In and Course Etiquette

We kindly remind all members to check in with the Golf Shop team before heading out onto the course.

In recent weeks, we've noticed an increased number of players booking on the tee sheet but not visiting the Golf Shop to confirm their check-in.

Checking in allows our staff to share any important updates, including special course conditions or other relevant information, ensuring you have the best possible experience on the course.

Also, whilst out on course please remember to follow golf course golf etiquette and rake bunkers after use, sand any divots and please refrain from discarding rubbish and cigarette ends on the course.

Thank you for your assistance, your cooperation is much appreciated!

Blue Cart Directional Signage and Lines.

Please remember to adhere to the new Blue Cart Directional Signs and Lines recently instated on course.  Since the introduction of the Visage 4 GPS system in September, we have been able to keep club carts well away from putting greens and surrounds, however we are still noticing too much cart wear close to greens.  The purpose of the blue lines is to make it absolutely clear where carts can be driven, the direction they are driven in and how far carts are to remain from surrounds and putting surfaces, so please, adhere to the direction of the arrows on the signs and do not cross the blue lines when driving a cart on course.  Staff will be policing this and in addition, we ask the lowest marker in each group to take responsibility for ensuring all members of the group adhere to the rule.  Please play your part in allowing us to deliver the quality of playing surface we all want to see.

Meet Team Behind Links

For the past two and a half years, Matt has been a valued member of the Links Hope Island team, bringing dedication and expertise to facility maintenance. He enjoys the trust he is given and the freedom to plan his day, ensuring the club remains in top condition. Mornings start with building checks and tidying the surrounds before tackling a variety of tasks-often squeezing in touch-up painting whenever he has a spare moment.

The most rewarding part of Matt's role? The satisfaction of restoring something worn or broken back to its former glory. One of his proudest achievements was overcoming his fear of heights while working on high-rise concrete repairs in a previous role, and he takes great pride in the transformation of the meeting room renovation at Links.

Outside of work, Matt is a devoted dad who dreams of turning his passion for photography into a profession. When he's not busy keeping the club in top shape, you'll find him fishing, playing guitar, or capturing moments through his camera lens. While his childhood dream of training dolphins or whales never materialized, he still dreams of teleportation-especially if it means catching a Newcastle United game at St James' Park.

Fun fact? Matt used to breed and sell American Cichlids! His best advice? Never give up-because you never know what's around the corner.
