Update from the Course

club image

The greens are in great condition at the present time. They have a fantastic coverage of 328, they are healthy and are rolling consistently. So, what am I worried about......

This time of year, with renovations behind us and all our programmes being followed to the minute we should be emptying the catchers off the green's mower once for 18 holes. This is usual practice indicating that our Primo (growth regulator) is working and the greens aren't puffy or scalping. The problem we have been facing for the past month is we are emptying the catchers 8 times per 18 holes which is at a ridiculous level. As quick as the greens look, they are just not rolling out as much as I would like.

So, to overcome this dilemma on Monday we double verticut all greens at +3mm followed by a double cut of all greens. The amount of dead material removed from the verticut was very successful and will only improve the putting surface. The double cutting of the greens removed a lot of leaf and instantly made the greens look faster which was in turn backed up by the stimp meter. This practice added an extra two feet to the speed of the greens but more importantly removed the unwanted dead organic material affecting the overall appearance and health of the greens. We are now trialling a new growth retardant which hopefully does its job and suppresses the vigorous growth in the greens. The practice of Verti cutting and double cutting will be carried out on a monthly basis going forward.

See you on course,

Competition Prize Accounts

This is a friendly reminder for all members to ensure you are checking your Competition Prize Accounts over the coming months.

As per the member's handbook, Prize Credits are valid for a period of 12 months and will automatically expire if not redeemed. It is a member's responsibility to monitor their prize account. The Golf Shop will have a list printed out every month for members to check how much Prize Credit will be purged at the end of the current month.

Prize Credits are able to be used on golf shop merchandise only. Please ask our friendly golf shop staff if you are interested in ordering an item from our suppliers that we may not have in store.

Member and Guest Course Etiquette

Below are few reminders we'd appreciate all members and their guests adhering to, so please ensure:

  • You Check In at the Golf Shop prior to heading out onto the golf course.
  • Rake Bunkers after use - every time.
  • Fill in your Divots - every time.
  • Don't Hit Up of the group in front, regardless of pace of play.
  • Keep Carts on Paths at the Tee on each hole i.e. do not drive you carts on tee boxes or surrounds.
  • Refrain from discarding Rubbish and Cigarette Ends on the course.

Thank you for your assistance, your cooperation is much appreciated and will ensure the best possible golf experience for you and your fellow members!

Blue Cart Directional Signage and Lines.

We sincerely appreciate the adherence the vast majority of members are showing to the Blue Lines and Cart Directional Signage, the lack of traffic within these areas is helping improve these areas significantly.  From time-to-time golf cart wheel tracks are still visible within the marked area, and we ask members in private carts who are not adhering to this rule to please do so to avoid disciplinary action.

Updated Cart Policy

The level of improvement in the condition of fairways has surpassed expectation.  With this in mind we are now pleased to transition earlier than anticipated to the following Cart Rule, with immediate effect.

Mel

Meet Team Behind Links

Meet Mel, our beloved Coffee Queen, who has been brewing up perfection at Links Hope Island for the past three years. Drawn in by the luxurious, air-conditioned bar and stunning fountain area, Mel loves the club's commitment to elevating the coffee experience-and she's been a key part of that vision ever since.

A typical day for Mel is all about quality control-ensuring every cup meets her high standards-while also connecting with members and guests, learning about their lives, and sharing her knowledge with the next generation of coffee queens (or kings!). Her passion for coffee and people shines through in everything she does, and she takes great joy in seeing familiar faces return daily for their favourite brew.

For Mel, the best part of her role is simple: serving high-quality coffee and watching people come back for more. It's the little moments-like making lifelong friendships with colleagues Morgan and Brandi-that have made her journey at Links so special. Inspired by Barista Champion Matt Perger and managers who lead by example, Mel is always looking to refine her palate and take her coffee expertise to the next level.

Outside of work, Mel enjoys gardening and tackling jigsaw puzzles, and she swears by a flat white and a slice of carrot cake from SOL. Her best advice? "Aim to excel at what you do." If she had a superpower, she'd choose to read people's thoughts-perhaps to know exactly how they like their coffee! A fun fact? She was born in 1993-the same year Links Golf & Wellbeing opened!

On her bucket list? A trip to Japan to see the cherry blossom. But for now, she's right where she wants to be-making exceptional coffee and creating meaningful connections, one cup at a time.
