Update from the Course

You may have noticed the browning off on tees and tee surrounds over the past few weeks........Well I hope you have! We are currently 4 weeks into a herbicide programme targeting Blue couch, Summer grass, Crows foot and Kikuyu on all tees and surrounds. This is a post emergent programme which has been carried out every Wednesday for the past 4 weeks trying to clean up these areas visible from the tee.

Week 1 saw an application of Metric which is registered for the control of adult Crows foot and Summer grass.

Week 2, 3 and 4 we applied Tribute every 7 days to control Crows foot, Paspalum, Blue couch and Kikuyu.

The results have been very successful with full desecration of weeds in the targeted areas. Unfortunately, there was a lot of Blue couch, particularly in the ladies tees which has succumbed to the spray programme. We will encourage the Green couch to grow out these areas with a Verti drain, top dress and granular fertiliser. We will continue with this programme over the next few weeks changing up the herbicides and modes of action.

See you on course,
Glenn Beauclerc.
Your Friendly Course Superintendent.

Men's and Ladies Pennant Results

Men's Pennant Results

Links Golf & Wellbeing faced off against the current champions, Emerald Lakes, at Mt Tamborine on Sunday, February 16th. With all Emerald Lakes players on plus handicaps, it was always going to be a challenging match for our team.

A special congratulations to Jayden Situ, who claimed a fantastic 2/1 victory in his match at number 1. It was also great to see Roger Worms battle it out to the 18th hole, where he narrowly lost 1 down to the Emerald Lakes Club Champion.

Rayne Soderlund played impressively against his much older, big-hitting opponent. Despite some outstanding chipping from his competitor, Rayne fought hard but ultimately came up short.

Next week, the team will take on Southport and Royal Pines at 11:30 am. We wish all the players the best of luck in their upcoming match!

Ladies Business Pennant Results

Links Golf & Wellbeing hosted the opening round of the 2025 Gold Coast District Business Women's Pennant on Sunday, February 16th, where our ladies faced off against Beaudesert.

Our team fought hard throughout the day, with most of the matches going the distance. Despite their best efforts, Links came up just short, losing 3 matches to 2.

It was a fantastic day overall, with many players praising our club, the morning tea, and the condition of the course. Everyone enjoyed their time at Links Golf & Wellbeing, considering it a privilege to play on our beautiful course.

Here's to a successful season ahead!

Queensland Senior Order of Merit Event

Last Monday the Queensland Golf Association hosted the QSOOM Event at Links Golf & Wellbeing. It attracted a field of over 100 players with some Links members featuring in the prizes. The course was in great condition and presented well with the wind causing it to play very long. Troy Kohn won the overall Stableford event with 38 points which was a great effort in the tough conditions, Mel Whiteley won the ladies section on a countback and Roger Worms was runner up in the men's section on a countback. Feedback from the visitors was very positive.

Congratulations to these members, well played!!

Meet Team Behind Links

At Links Golf & Wellbeing, we are fortunate to have a passionate and hardworking team dedicated to keeping our course in top condition. This month, we shine the spotlight on Blair, one of our valued team members who has been part of the Links family for nearly a decade. Celebrating eight years this June, Blair brings an impressive 38 years of experience working on golf courses. His love for the outdoors and the ever-changing challenges of course maintenance make his role at Links Hope Island both fulfilling and exciting. Each day starts early, with tasks ranging from mowing and landscaping to general upkeep, ensuring the course remains in pristine condition. He finds the greatest joy in working outside, appreciating the fresh air, the sense of accomplishment, and the excellent work-life balance.

As a child, Blair dreamed of being a pilot, park ranger, or photographer. Always eager to expand his knowledge, he hopes to deepen his understanding of different grass types and the best chemicals for various maintenance tasks. Outside of work, Blair is an avid Dragon Boat racer, having competed in five state championships and even reaching the World Cup Championship. Next month, he is heading to New Zealand for the Wellington Dragon Boat Festival. He also keeps bees at home, managing two beehives. His top advice for maintaining a golf course is simple: take your time to do the job right the first time. Inspired by the dedication of his colleagues and the joy of a well-maintained course, he always strives to do his best. His bucket list includes traveling more. The best advice he’s ever received? Take pride in what you do. Next time you see Blair on the course, be sure to say hello!

Be Part of the Action at the Australian WPGA Championship

The Australian WPGA Championship is coming to Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club from Monday 3 March to Sunday 9 March 2025 and you have a unique opportunity to be part of this event. Key considerations for hosting include:

  • Accommodation: Provide a private room and bed for your player, with access to bathroom facilities and other basic amenities.
  • Meals: While most players are self-sufficient, offering basic options each day would be appreciated.
  • Transportation: Although not required, offering transportation to and from the course would also be appreciated.

If you are interested in becoming a billet host and/or caddy, please click here to register your interest with the WPGA. Alternatively, please feel free to contact Janelle Spence WPGA Tour Events Coordinator on 07 5657 6103 should you have any questions.
