Update from the Course

The course is presenting well and by all reports playing well too. The greens are rolling consistently and if we can get a regular dusting programme in place they will firm up and naturally bring about a faster roll. The coverage of 328 is good but we are still continually plugging and hand top-dressing out any thinner areas to obtain a 100% even coverage.

The 15th green has succumbed to a disease called Summer Decline (Gaeumannomyces graminis). With conditions ripe for disease outbreak over the past 2 months we have been vigilant with our fungicide prevention programme. Unfortunately, even with all the research throughout the world on turf diseases we still haven't discovered or manufactured a fungicide to control Summer Decline. I have been rotating three groups of fungicides over the past few months all registered for similar root diseases in an attempt to lessen the effects on the green and hopefully suppress the disease from spreading. As a cultural practice to take the stress off the grass we have been rolling the green more often than cutting it.

We are in the process of cleaning up the 17th green surrounds and 18th tee area. All the undergrowth which mainly consisted of umbrella trees and pepper trees between green and tee has been removed. A new championship tee will be constructed and the surrounds of this and the cart path perimeter fully laid with new turf. The remainder of the area will be mass planted with native Pennisetum swamp foxtail grass.

During this construction period a compulsary GUR drop zone has been implemented.

Competition Prize Accounts

This is a friendly reminder for all members to ensure you are checking your Competition Prize Accounts over the coming months.

As per the member's handbook, Prize Credits are valid for a period of 12 months and will automatically expire if not redeemed. It is a member's responsibility to monitor their prize account. The Golf Shop will have a list printed out every month for members to check how much Prize Credit will be purged at the end of the current month.

Prize Credits are able to be used on golf shop merchandise only. Please ask our friendly golf shop staff if you are interested in ordering an item from our suppliers that we may not have in store.

Member and Guest Course Etiquette

Below are a few reminders we'd appreciate all members and their guests adhering to, so please ensure:

  • You Check In at the Golf Shop prior to heading out onto the golf course.
  • Rake Bunkers after use - every time.
  • Fill in your Divots - every time.
  • Don't Hit Up of the group in front, regardless of pace of play.
  • Keep Carts on Paths at the Tee on each hole i.e. do not drive you carts on tee boxes or surrounds.
  • Refrain from discarding Rubbish and Cigarette Ends on the course.

Thank you for your assistance, your cooperation is much appreciated and will ensure the best possible golf experience for you and your fellow members!

Blue & Yellow Multi Tee Competitions

Based on member feedback, and as an ongoing trial for the next few months, we plan to implement the Multi Tee competitions on Tuesday's and Thursday's whenever the competition is scheduled for the Blue tees. Our Links Ladies will also have the option to play from the Yellow or Red tees on these days.

There will be separate NTP's for players off each set of tees.  More information will be available at the Golf Shop.

Nearest the Pin Markers

As discussed and agreed with the Members Advisory Committee at our recent meeting, the MiScore method will remain in place for recording NTP's but to help reduce time and provide a visible aid to determine if it is worth measuring a potential NTP shot, markers will be returned to greens Tuesday 4th March.

Insurance Update - Golf Carts

As advised prior to Christmas Golf Australia's 'Player's Personal Liability Insurance Policy' is changing from 1st March 2025.  This is the insurance policy the Affiliation Fee component of your membership fees contributes to, and we pass on to Golf Australia each year.

The change most likely to affect Links members, is specific exclusions have been added for any claim, loss, damage, liability or costs and expenses incurred directly or indirectly in connection with third party property damage to GOLF CARTS.

We recommend owners of private golf carts ensure they have up to date personal insurance for their cart.

We also need to advise that damage caused to Links cart fleet is no longer covered by this insurance and members will be personally responsible.

Saffron

Meet Team Behind Links

If you've visited the Golf Shop recently, you've probably been greeted by the friendly and welcoming Saffron, one of our newest team members!

Saffron has had quite the international upbringing-born on the Gold Coast, she moved to Russia at the age of four, then to Canada before returning to Australia to finish her schooling. It was during COVID that she picked up golf, thanks to a little encouragement from her dad after her usual team sports were put on hold. Now, while working at Links Golf & Wellbeing, she's also pursuing an engineering degree at university!

Although she's only been part of the team for a short time (or as she puts it, "a hot minute"), Saffron has already embraced the positive atmosphere. She enjoys meeting and greeting members, helping with purchases, and soaking up the vibrant energy of the club.

Outside of work and study, Saffron keeps busy with gym sessions and beach trips. She's also passionate about learning new things and meeting new people. Her dream as a child was to become a pilot, and one day, she hopes to make that dream a reality by earning her pilot's license. If she could have a superpower, she'd love to transform into any creature-imagine being able to breathe underwater or fly!

For those looking for a fun addition to their golf bag, Saffron recommends the Rottweiler head cover-a fitting choice, as she has an 8-year-old Rottweiler named Yoki at home.

Her best piece of advice? "Treat people how you would like to be treated." A simple yet powerful motto that she carries with her every day.

Next time you're in the Golf Shop, be sure to say hi to Saffron-she's always happy to chat and help you find just what you need!
