Update from the Course

With the inclement weather of late and rainy days out numbering the sunny ones, the entire course has been struggling to dry out. These are the optimum conditions favoured by turf diseases and as such we have seen an outbreak of the disease known as Black helminthosporium. What appears like patches of black oil thrown over the playing surfaces is actually small black lesions on the leaf of the turfgrass which spread rapidly resulting in melting out of the turf. Black helmo does not survive in the soil, it is leaf born and travels from plant to plant via water, foot traffic and machinery. The fungal spores only require up to one hour of leaf wetness for rapid spore germination.

On Monday we applied an application of Iprodione to all fairways and green surrounds, this is the fastest acting fungicide on the market registered for Black helmo. In the brew we also applied a foliar fertiliser (Extreme Green) and a new growth retardant called Marvellous. The results of this combination will be evident by Friday.

With the disease being walked onto the greens from every possible angle we also sprayed all greens and step cuts on Tuesday with the same three products.

Reminder to Check in Before Play

Thank you to all members who check in with the golf shop team before play however there are still a number of players who go straight to the tee without checking in.

This is a friendly reminder for all members to check in with the golf shop team before heading out on the golf course, whether it be early morning, during the day or late afternoon.

Checking in allows our staff to share any important updates, including special course conditions or other relevant information. We appreciate your cooperation.
