Update from the Course

Another short week with another public holiday and another wet weekend. It's a case of rinse and repeat at the moment and we are trying our best to keep the course up to the highest standards despite less hours and more rain. We had the opportunity to dust all greens on Wednesday and took full advantage of it. Greens were dusted at a light setting before being double rubbed in with the astro turf drag mats. We dusted in order of play with the one tee start ensuring all golfers had an uninterrupted 18 holes and to be honest you wouldn't know they had been sanded on the day.

The 2nd and 14th greens have been over sowed with Poa Trivialis. Both these greens are showing signs of stress from the disease Summer Decline and with the change of seasons upon us I don't think they will recover in time to have the optimum putting surface during winter. Poa Trivialis is a fine leaf cool season grass that will cover the thin bare areas on these greens. We prepared the bare areas for seed by constructing a "Bed of nails" which we could place over the thin areas on the greens. This bed of nails perforated the soil leaving over one thousand holes per square metre creating a void which the seed will germinate from. Being such a fine seed the rest of the green currently has enough canopy of grass to hold the seed and promote germination. The seed was put out using the rotary spreader, top-dressed and washed in by hand. We will hand water these greens twice per day over the coming weeks to encourage a good seed strike.

Arnika

Meet the Team Behind Links

Say hello to Arnika, our wonderful Food and Beverage and Events Assistant who's been bringing her charm, and unstoppable love for events to Links for the past six months! Although relatively new to the team, Arnika has already become a familiar and friendly face around the club - whether she's serving up a delicious bacon and egg toastie (highly recommended by herself) or setting up for one of our many events.

What drew Arnika to Links? The events, of course! She loves the buzz, the energy, and the behind-the-scenes magic that brings every function to life. And while her role keeps her busy with customers and event setups, she truly shines when she's chatting to members, getting to know their stories-and sharing a laugh or two along the way.

Outside of work, Arnika leads a life that sounds like the perfect blend of chill and creativity. She's a bookworm at heart, with a passion for reading (her bucket list? "Read all the books!"), journaling, cooking, and tending to her many beloved houseplants. Arizona iced tea is her beverage of choice, and when she's not lost in a story or her latest culinary creation, you'll find her deep into a video game adventure.

Arnika's childhood dreams were as imaginative as she is - first a princess, then a forensic scientist. Inspired daily by her hardworking parents and their dedication to running their own business, she's keen to keep growing her professional skills (perhaps in the events space!), and her advice for life? "Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end." Wise words, indeed.

Oh, and if you ever catch her humming by the ocean, don't be surprised - young Arnika once believed she could control the waves with her voice. Honestly, we kind of believe she still might.

Thanks for being such a delightful part of the Links team, Arnika - here's to many more events, stories, and smoothies.
