What a difference a month makes with no rain!

4 weeks ago, I would have been happy if it didn’t rain again this year as I think we’re all getting a bit over it, but today as I write this newsletter we are once again praying for a little divine intervention. It’s now been over 40 days since we have recorded any rain, and the course is showing signs of heat stress and wanting a good old drink. We have been watering fairways every second night putting out around 2 million litres each time we irrigate. Wetting agents are injected into the irrigation lines and distributed every night. Monthly applications of Wettas are applied directly to the turf when we foliar fertilise. All in all, we are trying everything possible to maintain some moisture in the profile, but 10mm of rain would make up for a week's watering.

Greens are fine with the usual dry suspects (6, 9 and 18) receiving more irrigation of a nighttime and hand watering during the day. All greens are enjoying the sunshine with constant growth now evident on all putting surfaces. We will spray out the poa trivialis on the 2nd & 14th greens in the coming weeks before we renovate greens in mid-November. 

We cleaned out the bullrushes on the 14th hole after discovering yet another irrigation leak. It was decided that the area would look more appealing with the bullrushes gone and the eventual plan to pipe the creek, backfill, and turf the entire area. It’s another job on the to-do-list.

There's been some sensational sunrises of late with one of greenkeepers taking the above picture of the fig tree on the 2nd hole.
