Senior Golfers Represent Links Golf & Wellbeing in District and State EventsThe 54-hole Gold Coast District Championship was recently
held over 3 days at the Sanctuary Cove Pines and Palms courses. 120 players
from all states came to challenge, Victoria, NSW, Tasmania, QLD and New
Zealand. Hope Island had 4 players representing the club in the tournament;
Michael Hoffmeier in the 55 to 59, Greg Shipton in the 60 to 64, Roger Worms in
the 65 to 69 and John Allwood in the over 70`s. Day 1 at the Pines saw some great scoring. Hoff had a great
74 to be right in the mix. Roger had a 37 on the back nine to keep his score
respectable. Shippo had some great par saves for an 82. Day 2 was a nightmare at the Palms. With the rain and storms
coming in, the day wasn’t looking good. With 4 rain delay stoppages in the
first 4 holes, fairways flooded, greens covered with water, the course became unplayable.
On our 5th hole with the rain pouring and the course looking like a
lake the day was cancelled. Moving day was gone. Day 3 at the Palms looked good. The course was wet but no
more rain. Hoff had a great round of 70 finishing 4th in the overall
scratch and runner up in the nett, (off a 2 H/cap). A terrific effort. The overall winner was Graham Hourn from Kingaroy. Roger had a final round of 76 and finished 4th
position in his age group. The winner was Michael Barltrop from New Zealand. Th QLD State 54-hole Senior Championships were held the
following week at Hervey Bay and Hope Island had 3 representatives. Michael
Hoffmeier once again played strong with rounds of 74, 77 74, to finish 6th
in his age division Roger Worms had rounds of 75, 77, 78 to finish 5th
in his age division Melanie Whiteley represented our ladies and although not
playing to her usual brilliant standard, finished 7th overall and won her age division.
A great effort on an unfamiliar course. |
